Assistant Manager – Residential Child Care

As an Assistant Manager, you will play a vital role in shaping a safe, nurturing, and empowering home where children and young people feel valued, supported, and able to reach their full potential. Working closely with the Service Manager, you’ll help lead a dedicated team that puts care, consistency, and positive outcomes at the heart of everything they do.

Your Role

  • Support the Service Manager in the day-to-day operational leadership of the residential home
  • Provide high-quality, child-centred care to children and young people
  • Lead, motivate, and support a team of Residential Child Care Workers
  • Promote positive practice in line with Social Care Standards
  • Oversee staff supervision, training needs, rotas, and staffing levels
  • Work collaboratively with Senior Residential Child Care Workers to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Contribute to organisational efficiency and continuous improvement across the service

About You

We’re looking for an experienced and committed professional who:

  • Holds SVQ3 or HNC in Children and Young People
  • Is working towards (or willing to complete) SVQ4 in Leadership and Management
  • Has several years’ experience in residential child care
  • Is confident leading and supporting teams, especially in challenging situations
  • Is passionate about delivering outstanding care and being a positive role model

Salary & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: £14.50 – £18.00
  • Approx. Annual Salary: £30,880 – £38,160
  • Fully qualified and experienced candidates (SVQ4):
  • Minimum £16 per hour
  • Approx. £34,000 per annum

Essential

  • Clean Driving Licence
  • Relevant Experience in the Residential Child Care Sector in a supervisory role.
  • Able to work unsocial hours, including Weekend and perform on-call duties.
  • Working hours- You will be working an average of 40 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: SVQ3 Children and Young People and HNC Health and Social Care. The applicant must be willing to work towards an SVQ 4 and Leadership and Management.
  • Ambitious attitude and willing to work towards meeting Set Targets and Goals
