Our Mission Statement is "Working together to provide a stable, supportive and caring home promoting respect, values, rights and diversity."
We at Horizons are a bespoke provider of residential care for children and young people between the ages of 8-18 years. We have four houses that can house up to three children and young people for 1:1 support. Our ethos and team are dedicated to providing outstanding care and support to young people to enable them to have the lives they so badly deserve.
We keep young people protected from abuse, neglect or harm at home, in education and in the community.
We encourage the highest attainable standards of physical and mental health for our young people with support to make safe choices.
We support our young people and guide them to develop their skills, confidence and self-esteem.
We ensure our young people have a nurturing and safe environment in which to thrive in.
We ensure our young people have opportunities to take part in activities such as play, recreation and sport to contribute to growth and development.
We ensure our young people have a place to be listened to, heard and involved in their care and our team are advocates for our young people.
We ensure our young people have opportunities and encouragement to play active roles at home, in school and in the community.
We assist our young people to overcome social and educational inequalities and to be part of the community in which we live and learn.
Our teams are given all relevant e-training and are sponsored to gain qualifications to enable them to be fully registered with SSSC. We understand the importance of supporting our teams so that they can help our young people achieve their full potential. Our staff teams recently attended a four-day course of Attachment and Trauma training which has helped us understand and adapt our approached to ensure we are trauma informed.
We recently won the Dream Team and Breaking Barriers awards in Hillview at the SIRCC Residential Childcare Awards 2019.
The Breaking Barriers award “recognises the importance of working together, creating connections and striving for improvement in Residential Care in Scotland. It’s in recognition of partnership working across organisations and/or agencies in the development of a project, program or service which has made a real difference”. The Dream team award “celebrates teams that have made a difference in the lives of young people living in residential care”.
We have won Best Care Home Group – Lothians in the Social Care Awards 2021! We are delighted that all of our hard work and dedication has paid off.
